Futian District doubles as Shenzhen's central business district and its administrative, financial, trade, cultural and diplomatic centre. Spread over 78.66 sq km and comprising 4% of Shenzhen's total area, Futian accounted for HK$630.4 billion or 20% of the city's total economic output in 2022.

Two years ago, Shenzhen announced several significant projects in Futian and the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, with a total investment of over HK$130 billion. The Futian Government introduced a multi-pronged plan to accelerate economic development and introduce different investors. One of the strategies is to develop three new engines of growth: Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, the new Xiangmihu Financial Centre, and the Central Park Vitality Circle, covering sectors such as technology and innovation, finance, and lifestyle, with the aim of transforming Shenzhen into an influential international city. To promote cooperation in science and technology between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Hong Kong Science Park has its Shenzhen branch at Hetao.

In an effort to provide members with a better understanding of the projects, the China Committee and the GBA Working Group will jointly organize a visit to Futian with a focus on the development and potential of these engines of growth.
